For Travelers (English version)/Must go list (English Version)

[Jeon Hyun-moo No Plan] Yeosu Jubu Tteok House (주부떡집)

I've recently become obsessed with "The Jeon Hyun Moo Plan"!

I'm really hooked on the impromptu travels of Jeon Hyun Moo and Kwak Tube.

Today, I had lunch at Bongsandong Sangol Jang-eo, and then I walked to Seomun Market to eat pumpkin sirutteok.

Yeosu Seo Market is one of the markets with a long history, and it's narrower and more compact compared to other markets. I went during a weekday, so it was relatively quiet, but if you go on the weekend, it might be crowded when you're trying to find this tteok shop!

The moment I saw this tteok on "The Jeon Hyun Moo Plan," I thought it was worthy of being featured on the show, and I was right.

It's already a popular spot because of the  TV show!

I was lucky that the pumpkin sirutteok(Korean rice cake) was just coming out as soon as I arrived! There were other types of tteok, but my eyes were glued to this one!

It was thicker than I expected, and considering it was called pumpkin sirutteok, the siru (steamed layer) part wasn’t that prominent.

They pack a large piece into six portions, and one piece is about the size of four café cake slices.

The price is 5,000 won.

The tteok is first packed in a clear bag and then in a black bag.

I planned to eat the warm tteok at a nearby park, but there wasn't a place to sit near Seomun Market, so I ended up unboxing it on a bench in front of Yeosu Ferry Terminal!

Typically, I don’t go out of my way to eat sirutteok because the red bean flavor is too strong for me. However, in this case, the term "siru" felt more like an outer packaging.

The real highlight was inside. Not only was there yellow pumpkin powder mixed into the sirutteok dough, but you can also see the yellow pumpkin pieces inside. These pumpkin pieces are the key point.

They are sweet and have a softer texture than dried radish strips, which is an unusual combination. The pumpkin pieces burst in your mouth, while the red beans on the outside balance the flavors perfectly.

Too much sweetness can be overwhelming, but the red beans help to balance the taste, making it enjoyable without being too much.

It was so delicious, and the portion was quite large, so I finished the rest back at the accommodation with some makgeolli as a snack.

It was such a special pumpkin sirutteok that I definitely want to buy it again the next time I visit Yeosu!
