This trip to Yeosu is part of the "Jeon Hyun Moo Plan"? Let's give it a try!
today's destination has been decided for a while, so we took a taxi to Bongsan-dong!
The place that's been featured on almost every broadcast, and recently on the "Jeon Hyun Moo Plan" as well, is Namjin's Ganjang Gejang and cutlassfish Specialty.(남진이네 게장갈치명가)
Wow, is this the huge cutlassfish that was on TV? It grabs your attention as soon as you enter!
Wow, It's real!!
They offer cutlassfish stew, marinated shrimp, marinated crab, and even salted fish and fresh kimchi.
You can also get it packaged or delivered. The characteristic of a good restaurant is that after eating there, you definitely want to eat it at home and send it to your family!
We went in near closing time, so I took some photos inside.
There's about twice as much space as what you see in the photos.
You don't just sit anywhere; they assign you a seat, so you wait for your turn to be seated.
We were deciding what to have for dinner and thought about trying the cutlassfish sashimi that was on TV, but it was already sold out! What a bummer!
So, we ordered two servings of cutlassfish stew (30,000 KRW). Oh, I really wanted to try the sashimi!
If you like marinated crab, I recommend the marinated crab set! For an extra 5,000 KRW per person, you can get both the cutlassfish stew and marinated crab!
Unfortunately, my mom doesn't really like marinated crab, so we went with the cutlassfish stew.
And finally, the cutlassfish stew arrived! At first glance, it seemed like there wasn't much.
The cutlassfish looked different from other places.
The reason is... they removed all the bones from the cutlassfish, filleted it, and tied it into knots before stewing it!
It's my first time having boneless cutlassfish stew! They said this way, the fish doesn't fall apart while stewing and cooks perfectly.
I took a bite. A spoonful of rice soaked in the broth...
Wow... It's so delicious. Eating the whole cutlassfish without having to debone it is such a delight!
Honestly, when you eat cutlassfish stew at other places, it's a hassle to debone it, and it feels wasteful spitting out the bones. But this place is different.
You can fully enjoy the cutlassfish here. It's the best cutlassfish stew ever!
If it's your first time trying it, I recommend taking a big bite of the rolled cutlassfish! You can taste how tender the fish is and how well the seasoning is balanced in one bite.
And when you take a bite of the broth-soaked rice with some salted fish on top... it's simply fantastic.
Finally, I savored the radish and pumpkin, which I had saved for last. The pumpkin in the stew was a bit unusual, but it made sense.
It crumbled gently in your mouth, releasing the seasoning it absorbed... just perfect...
I ended up ordering another bowl of rice and finishing everything... The cutlassfish stew seemed like it wasn't enough, but since it was boneless, it felt like we ate more.
That's how we wrapped up our meal... Initially, I was tempted by the 30,000 KRW per person cutlassfish sashimi set, but it sells out by lunch time. You have to come in the morning to get it.
If we didn’t have plans the next morning, I would have loved to try the cutlassfish sashimi course then! Unfortunately, we'll have to try it next time!
We considered going back on the last day, but instead went to a mediocre fresh fish restaurant and wasted money... We should have come here twice!!
When we left, it was completely sold out... Normally, there's a 2-hour wait on weekends, but since it was featured on "Jeon Hyun Moo Plan" and with spring coming, the wait time is now 4 hours on weekends! (Maybe that's why they couldn't keep up with clearing tables quickly.)
Even just for the cutlassfish stew, this place outshines any other restaurant I've been to. The seasoning is perfect, and you can enjoy the cutlassfish in big bites without worrying about bones. It's a must-visit place!
However, I recommend coming on a weekday!!
Oh, coming here before checking in and eating before they closed was truly a godsend!
On the way to our accommodation, the cherry blossoms were already in full bloom. Just like last year, I’m seeing the first cherry blossoms of the season in Yeosu!
Writing this blog a month later, I can still taste it! You must visit this place!
